Sure, drone on and on about the gas little Fetus-Susie is giving you, or about how proud you are of baby Spencer's first shit. I can easily block all that crap from my news feed. But seriously, when you're announcing big news to your family and friends, NOTHING should take the place of a personalized phone call, birth announcement, even an email. Things are just getting WAY too impersonal

It is not that long ago that a "personalised phone call" was considered impersonal, not to mention an email.
Our perceptions shift and our outrage is relative to what the norm was when we were socialized. In a few years, when the first digital natives enter the workforce (they turn 18 soon) we will bemoan the impersonal way announcements are made and hanker back to the intimate FB days
