Just back from looking at and thoroughly enjoying the Great Ethiopia Run.
Up to 25,000 runners raced (or in some cases paced) through the morning sun. The atmosphere was wonderful. Shouting, dancing, clapping and sweating the runners made their way through the city finishing at the truly huge Meskel Square.
There were kids, old men, lots of guys in masks and big hats.
There was some great music and amazing dancing from groups along the way.
I took some pictures which I have on flickr and some video on Youtube.
The URL I previously posted got mangled, ethio-zagol's post is at http://seminawork.blogspot.com/

Mark, great pictures and thanks for the video. Though it was very brief, but it captured the awesome atmosphere (sounds and general excitement) quite nicely.
Another high-profile and well respected blogger in Addis (http://seminawork.blogspot.com/) is reporting that the Run turned into a Protest. Did you witness any of the protest he reported?
